Singapore Book Club: “Gone Case, Graphic Novel”

Gone Case Vol. 1 is a 128-page black and white graphic novel which charts the coming of age of 12-year old Yong as he struggles with studies, his grandma’s death and the breakup of his family over the course of a year.

Art by:

Koh Hong Teng worked on the graphic novel “01321”, which won the prestigious Digital Art Gold Award at the inaugural Comgraph Asia Pacific Digital Art & Animation Competition in 2001. Since his graduation from the London College of Printing, Hong Teng has done work in comics and illustrations, starting as an artist at Singapore Press Holdings before branching out into a career as a freelance illustrator. His clients include Philips Design, Readers Digest, Ogilvy, Grey Advertising and Electrolux. His comic work has been published in both Liquid City Volumes 1 and 2.

Story by:

Dave Chua is an award-winning writer. He won the Golden Point Award for short story writing for ‘Father’s Gifts’, and was a recipient of the Arts Creation Fund in 2009. His novel, Gone Case, received a Commendation award for the Singapore Literature Prize in 1997. His new collection of short stories, The Beating and Other Stories, will be published in 2011.


Dr. David Fedo is a native of Minnesota and a long time teacher of literature and college administrator in the United States. He is currently the Executive Director and Visiting Scholar at the Singapore branch of the Wheelock College (Boston, Massachusetts, USA) Center for International Education, Leadership, and Innovation.  He was on a panel at the recent Singapore Writers Festival which explored the works of contemporary Italian, Singaporean and American poets.
